Two Pieces for piano, opus 100 no. 4 (2018)

  1. 1. Untethered Spaces – Moderate, expansive
  2. 2. Now Toccata – Fast, energetic

Two Pieces for piano is the fourth and final pair of short pieces in the opus 100 set. The previous three pairs are: Op. 100 No. 1, Prelude and Postscript; Op. 100 No. 2, Interludes; and Op. 100 No. 3, Moon and Ocean. The entire set was composed over the period between 2015 and 2018 and each piece draws on material from other larger pieces composed in the same period. Untethered spaces, the first piece, draws material from the third movement of Maali – Concerto (2016) and Now toccata from the first movement of Southern Cantata (2018).  Untethered spaces, the longest and most expansive work in the series, was composed at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in January 2018 and the percussive and virtuosic Now Toccata in Sydney in December 2017.
